NAV IV USB access

I have started using the Garmin BaseCamp app to layout and download routes to my Nav IV. I have also been uploading tracks from the Nav IV to BaseCamp to view the ad-hoc routes I have taken.

It seems to me there must be a better way to do this than removing the battery door, and the battery to get access to the USB port on the Nav IV. I am already wearing out the seal, and marring the edge of the door?

What am I missing.. is there another way to link BaseCamp to the Garmin.. Bluetooth, external USB, divine wisdom?
